Snow Days

Prior to moving to Germany we were warned about the cold winters, where the snow came for months on end. Disappointingly, we have had very little snow since we arrived here and we were starting to wonder if it was a myth.

We have had a few days of light snow this year; however, yesterday we had a wonderful snowstorm, which has resulted in a lovely thick layer of snow, even better it was still here when we woke up this morning!

In Germany, they have a very efficient rule for tackling the slippery terrain: each person has to clear the snow on all paths surrounding your home by a certain time of the day (the time is a little later on a Sunday).  This is a pretty good rule but it can be a bit of a pain when you are trying to get kids out the door to kindergarten and a husband to work.

(This morning Bob L had a great time playing in the snow; as you can see, Bob D on the other hand is very unsure about the whole thing and stayed indoors reading a book)
