One of the main benefits of moving to Germany is having access to central Europe.
Primarily my husband and I would like to explore Germany, but we are also thrilled at the prospect of going further afield.
So...when our friends suggested meeting us in France for a holiday we jumped at the chance. We could drive (that can't take too long!) or get the 'car' train (how much fun would that be!)
Then we looked into it, the car train was extremely expensive so that was ruled out immediately. So car it was! It would only take us 13 hours.....with 20 month old twin boys.... Whoops
On the way there we did an overnight stop at a rather horrible hotel in the middle of nowhere. Not ideal seeing as we had to complain and moved rooms due to the stench of cigarette smoke in our non-smoking hotel.
On the way back we set off mid-morning and drove through the day and night (obviously with quite a few stops to let the boys run and be fed). We got back at 3am and were thankful that the boys didn't wake up when we got home and we all got some sleep.
For future holidays we will staying closer to home, especially as we worked out it would have been closer and quicker to get to the south of France when we lived in London!
Anyway, on the plus side the holiday we had was amazing and worth the trip; good friends, good wine and good fun! We are already thinking about where to go next year!
