Traveling with Twins - Long Haul

The bravest (or craziest depending on how you want to look at it) thing we have decided to do so far with the boys is to take them on a long haul flight to America.

This meant a three-hour-drive to Frankfurt, ten-hour-flight to Denver, then (thankfully), a short drive to get to our destination.

We were nervous, to say the least.

We had considered flying via London, as it was cheaper - thankfully we decided to pay slightly more and fly direct!

The journey to the airport was fairly drama free (although thank goodness for Tom Tom Go, as we managed to avoid a major traffic delay which could have resulted in us missing our flight).

On the flight we had managed to get the bulk head seats. We had two cots for the boys, had paid for an extra seat and had plenty of legroom.

We had filled the boys Trunkis with their favourite things (toys, books, stickers, colouring pencils) and packed enough snacks to feed the boys for a week - just in case!  I like to be prepared!

I have to say that surprisingly, the flight, was drama free. The boys played (we only brought out a few toys at a time, and rotated them often), then slept, then ate. There was very little crying and we even had a lovely couple come up to us to say how good the boys were.

We did feel a little sorry for the poor man sitting next to us; however, he didn't seem to mind.  He introduced himself to the boys at the beginning of the flight and picked up any toys that went flying in his direction. When the flight was landing he told me that he was a father of four and that he had been in our position many times - I think this must have contributed to his patience and good humour.

The hardest part was going through customs, the boys had truly had enough by this point.

The return journey was a night flight, so it was easier (despite my poor husband having a stomach bug).

They hardest part was getting over the jet lag! It took a few days either end to get back to normal.

We did thank our lucky stars that that was probably going to be the hardest flight we will have to do; the next time the boys will be older and will just watch films the whole way...hopefully...maybe....
